Free at last …

Folks who had felt hostage to uncertainty during the 16-day government shutdown may feel a bit more free today, able to stretch their emotional legs and smile a bit more after a short term deal was approved.

Three cows in South Africa are doing the same. A friend in Capetown passed this along to me, and it’s too good not to share. A compact Toyota Tazz was stolen in Butterworth/Transkei, but later wrecked and apparently abandoned.

Folks checking out the wreck discovered that three — count ’em, three — pilfered cows had also been hogtied and stuffed into the back of the car.

It’s a good thing South African cows are typically much skinnier than the American versions. Once freed from their bondage, the cows appeared to be unharmed and far more calm than one would expect.

Let’s hope America’s economy emerges in as good a shape, and that lawmakers can find enough common ground to avoid another wreck when the current deal runs out.
