John D. Pierce, Executive Editor/Publisher
John D. Pierce has been Executive Editor of Nurturing Faith Journal (formerly Baptists Today) since 2000. Previously he served as managing editor of The Christian Index and as a Baptist campus minister at Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State University. A native of Ringgold, Ga., he is a graduate of Berry College (B.A.), Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Columbia Theological Seminary (D.Min.).
Vickie Frayne, Creative Director
Vickie Frayne is Creative Director, providing graphic design for the journal, books and other resources. In addition to significant experience as a publication designer, she is a public school language arts enrichment teacher. She is a graduate of Georgia College & State University.
Julie Steele, Chief Operations Officer
Julie A. Steele has been Chief Operations Officer since 2010. She holds a degree in technical communication from Mercer University’s School of Engineering and has broad experience in both corporate and nonprofit management.
Jannie T. Lister, Customer Service Manager
Jannie T. Lister serves as Customer Service Manager at the Nurturing Faith home office in Macon, Georgia. Previously she worked with Charter Behavioral Health Systems as a disbursement specialist for the accounts payable department.
Jackie B. Riley, Managing Editor
Jackie B. Riley is Managing Editor, overseeing the production of the journal as well as book projects. She also works with the Baptist History and Heritage Society and previously was a book editor at Smyth & Helwys Publishing. A former high school teacher and a church staff minister, she is a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.R.E.), Georgia College (M.Ed.) and Georgia Southern College (B.S.).
Lex Horton, Book Publishing Manager
Lex Horton is Book Publishing Manager, guiding the process from acquisition to publication. Also, he works for a solar energy company. Previously he served as minister to youth at the First Baptist Church of Athens, Ga., before joining Smyth & Helwys Publishing where he served in various roles including publisher. He is a graduate of Campbellsville University and Southern Seminary.
Tony W. Cartledge, Contributing Editor
Tony W. Cartledge is Contributing Editor and writer of the Nurturing Faith Bible Studies curriculum inside the journal. He also teaches Old Testament studies and ministry courses at Campbell University Divinity School. A former editor of the Biblical Recorder, he is the author of several books and served as a pastor for 26 years. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia, Southeastern Seminary and Duke University, where he earned a Ph.D. in Hebrew Scriptures.
David Cassady, Church Resources Editor
David Cassady is the Church Resources Editor who manages the Teaching Resources for the Nurturing Faith Bible Studies. He is the president/founder of the creative services firm Faithlab and serves as President of Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. The former publisher/executive vice president for Smyth & Helwys Publishing, he is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and Southern Seminary, where he earned a Ph.D. in Christian education.
Bruce T. Gourley, Writer/Online Editor
Bruce T. Gourley is Online Editor/Contributing Writer. Based in Bozeman, Montana, Bruce is a photographer, historian and author who hosts annual Nurturing Faith Experiences in the American West. The editor of Yellowstone History Journal, he is a graduate of Mercer University, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Auburn University, where he earned a Ph.D. in history.
John F. Bridges, Development Associate
John F. Bridges is Development Associate, building support for the non-profit publishing ministry. He serves as pastor of Green Hill Baptist Church in Rutherfordton, N.C. Earlier he worked in advancement and church relations for his alma mater, Gardner-Webb University.
